I'm fairly new myself to this business but I've already dealt with the insurance situation. There are 2 policies that you will probably need. But for now you should only get one of the two policies. Here are the 2 policies:
- Contractors General Liability Policy for 1 million ($300-$500 per year)
- Errors and Omissions Insurance Policy For Mortgage Field Services for $1 million ($1,000-$3,000 per year)
The reason I say to get the first policy now is because most banks or brokers will not even talk to you if you don't have a basic liability policy. The Errors and Omissions policy will cost between $1,000-$3,000 but from my experience and what I heard from others is that anybody you will be working for will give you a couple months to get it.
You should have no problem finding a good contractors general liability policy by near you live. But the other policy is unique. So here are the 2 companies that have the least expensive Errors and Omissions insurance and I looked around for a while.
