Organa Keto Although we all know that correlation does not imply causality, there seems to be a persistent relationship between less sleep time and greater fat mass. This association persists after controlling the most predictable potential confounding agents and is probably related to the total number of hours of sleep (since it is the simplest to measure in epidemiological studies).
During intentional calorie restriction (fat loss diets), it appears that a 3-hour sleep reduction (8.5 to 5.5) is associated with an unfavorable body composition loss effect, with a greater weight loss from of lean mass (muscle) instead of fat mass in relation to the control group. Lack of sleep can negatively affect the distribution of nutrients during a weight loss diet. Sleep deprivation seems to increase hunger and may be more significant when sleep deprivation coexists with reduced caloric intake. In healthy women, this increased appetite has been quantified around a 20% increase in voluntary energy intake (and a slight increase in body weight of 0.4 kg).
