do you have to have a general contractors license to do property preservation work in NC or any area period?

Ramon, depending on the company issuing your workorders you may or may not get them back. Some companies only allow boarding if window cannot be reglazed or fixed easily, in that case you probably will not receive your boards back but you have been paid for that material and should consider it part of the house and not yours anymore...

I just opened my preservation business and we are looking for work in the Chicagoland and south suburb areas.Any help with getting some REO connects for out here will be greatly appreciated? Check out our website at foreclosure-preservation.com and there is also a link on there to check us out on Facebook.

Ramon, very good question.  I have done only 1 board-up on a 'forced-out eviction'.  I made friends with the realtor so when the house was actually cleaned out and repaired (in which I did) I asked him if I could do the removal and take the boards back.  He was fine with that and gave me the heads up when it was time to de-board.  Otherwise, you probably won't get them back or the expensive bolts that are used.
